Why Automation Is Important To The Homeschool-Work-At Home Business
One of the great things about a work-at-home business is the autonomy in which we operate. We make our own hours – as many or few as we wish.
Sure, we’re in contact with others outside our home-office, but it is great not to be involved in a task and be distracted by someone hitting you up for cash for his or her kids school fund-raiser (Isn’t that what taxes are for?). While we all want to help others out, having our train of thought broken during a moment of creative genius, is a disruption. Of course, there are many other office distractions, such as what was on TV the previous night, politics, and the worst, office gossip.
While the work-at-home business is not completely devoid of distractions, as a homeschool family, we just might find ourselves tempted to be distracted. Why? Because our kids are here – at home. By definition, we are a homeschool. Our children are here, schooling.
Thus, the benefit of office automation. Anything that can be automated to help reduce workload should be considered. Office automation products can effectively help in minimizing manual work load and also save time through their automatic functional features.
What kind of products are they? They may include your computer, calculator, printer, copier machine, fax machine, laminating machine, note binding machine, to name a few. There is also software to consider, such as accounting, for payroll, billing, invoicing and if you market products or services on the internet, autoresponders to quickly communicate with a customer regarding a purchase or email. Even programs to keep track of passwords and automatic data-backup, group lists in your email address book, help cut down on time spent keeping up with these time consuming tasks. The list of products, however, goes on and on.
For the typical homeschool/work-at-home family, we’re a one or two man shop. We’re about streamlining and efficiencies and getting the most out of what we have. We can also put this equipment into double-duty, for our work-at-home business and our homeschool.
My personal favorite – the MFP, or, multi-function-printer. Golly, I would love to personally thank the person who invented it. The speed, quality and dependability of these devices has so improved through the years, that my trips to Kinko’s have all but stopped. One device, for as little as about $100, has improved the homeschool experience a thousand fold. All in all, probably the most useful device in anyone’s homeschool or home business.
While only covering a handful of products, the main point is freeing up your time for more constructive and productive tasks. As in larger enterprises, we must delegate tasks, and in the homeschool/work-at-home environment, delegation means the use of office automation. And sometimes, your kids!
We homeschoolers are an industrious lot, continuously searching for things and ways to improve our ability to teach our children and enhance their homeschool/educational experience. A little web research, regarding your particular business, will reveal what items will serve you and your homeschool – work-at-home business best.
